Itinerary

Day 01: Racca – Soccma – Piruchayoc

Driving to the bridge of Pomatale from where we will hike 20 minutes to visit the Inka temple of Chokekillka, located on the side of a mountain over many terraces between two huge rocks. We will have an introduction into the Inka cosmovision and after its relation ship with the natural elements. After this visit we have a 10 minute transfer from where we start our trek to the community of Soccma, where we will visit a school and a local house in order to understand the country side style and relation ship to corn. After our picnic lunch we continue the trek uphill to the 100 meter waterfalls of Piruchayoc. We continue the hike over the waterfalls to our first camp on the Inka sightseeing and control point of Piruchayoc, which has an amazing view of the Soccma valley, Maras plateau and Chicon snow capped mountain. Camp Altitude: 2,900 meter.
Distance hike: 7 kilometers uphill. 5-6 hours of hike From Cusco to Pomatales bridge
(1 hour and half) From Urubamba to Pomatales Bridge (half hour).

Day 02: Piruchayoc – Chancachuco

MachupicchuAfter breakfast we start to walk following an Inka water channel, the trail goes up to Ccorimarca valley through ancient terraces where the locals still growing crops. We hike up to our first pass from where we have an amazing view of the snow capped of Urubamba range (Veronica, Chicón, etc), Ausangate, Pachatusan, Salcantay, the fields of Chincheros, Moray and Maras plateau. After a break and a snack we continue through the small valley of Chancachuco, where we will have lunch next to the Andean lake of Maracocha which feeds water into the stream of Chancachuco through an 18 kilometer long Ink water channel. At this point we have the opportunity to see Andean birdlife as Andean goose, Cara Cara, Andean flicker, predators among others. After a rest and our picnic lunch we continue downhill our next campsite with a spectacular view of the snow peak Huayanay, located in the Vilcabamba range (North). We have the opportunity to visit a local family house whose economy is based on potato farming and breeding sheep. (B, L, D)

Distance from pass to the camp 2: 4 kilometer. 2 hours of hike

Day 03: Chancachuco – Cachiccata Quarry Community Camp

MachupicchuWe start trekking to the second pass over the Apu Buena Negra from where we have a spectacular overview of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the snow peaks of the Urubamba range. From the pass we hike downhill following the trail until we join the Inca water channel which comes from Maracocha lake after 18 kilometer of cliffs and suspended passes; from here we reach the temple call Intiwatana, which is located on the edge of the mountain called Apu Alambre, located in front of the Veronica snow peak, where many offerings are made. We also have a great view of Pakaritampu pyramid. Then we continue downhill to Choquetacarpo an archaeological site where we will have lunch. After we will walk downhill to visit one of the biggest Inca quarries in Cusco, which lunch supplied stones for the town and fortress of Ollantaytambo, slid the downhill and crossed the river in order to reach the fortress.

We will camp this night at a nice campsite owned by a group of young local people from Cachiccata community. From here we can enjoy a view of the community, Ollantaytambo and Veronica snow capped mountain.

Camp altitude: 2,750 meter Second pass
Altitude: 4,300 meter
Distance hike: 8 kilometer. 7 hours.

Day 04: Transfer to Ollantaytambo Train Station

Optional hike around the community and transfer to Ollantaytambo train station to take the train to Machu Picchu or go back to Cusco or connect another adventure.
