About Qoyllor Ritty

Qoyllur Ritti is a Quechua word that means “star of the snow ". The Qoyllur Ritti is one of the festivities mixtures more important of the Andean world, which combines the worship to Sun, to the Christian icons and to the marvelous divinities that live in the Snow-capped Mountain Apu Ausangate.

 It is one of the most devoted sanctuaries in South America, where every year thousand of thousand of people (Andeans and visitors) arrive to ask for pardon and to be filled with energy.

There you will see dancers with his multicolored gowns dancing at 4200 meters close to the Ausangate Mountain.

Itinerary:

First Day : Cusco – Mahuayani – Qoyllor Ritty

We will pick you up from your hotel to take the bus from Cusco to Mahuayani, after 4 hours we will arrive to Mahuayani (3800 masl) an Andean community, in this place we will take our lunch. After the rest, we will begin the hiking towards the Mr. Qoyllur Ritti sanctuary in this place we will spend the night.

We will be in the mass that is celebrated in Quechua (Andean language).

Further we will enjoy to the typical region dances spectacle.

  • Cusco – Mahuayani   (4 hours)
  • Mahuayani – Qoyllor ritty (3 hours)

Second Day : Qoyllur Ritti Sanctuary – Tayankani

We will have to wake up early to observe the sun rise, after it we will take the breakfast; this day we will observe and be part of the activities that do the peregrines at the sanctuary.

Later we will go at the “alacitas” market, where you will see a curious exhibition, in which somebody can buy commodity miniature such as cars, houses, herds, university titles, all of them will be blessed for the Mr. Qoyllur Ritti.

Also we will see the last procession of the Mr. of Tayancani, the virgin and others like civil servants who dance in the sanctuary ceremony.

After lunch, we will walk to Yanacancha (small Andean community), where all the dancers sleep to go on the night procession to Tayankani.

Day 03: Queñuapata – Cuncany.

Ascent by the Vilcanota mountain range. Lunch and rest in the route. After the lunch it will be continued the long walk being able to appreciate the Yanacocha lagoon. Arrival to the community of Cuncani. Spend the night. (B, D, L).

Third Day : Tayancani – Ocongate - Cusco

After the spectacular pilgrimage at night, we will wait the sun rise, “the sun rise ceremony” is impressive (7:00 am), after the breakfast we will descend towards Tayancani to listen the missal at 10:00 am, where we will receive the Mr. Qoyllur Ritti blessing, then take the lunch and descend to Ocongate, where we will take the bus to back to Cusco city. End of our services.
