Itinerary
The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is rated among the best trekking trips in the world because of the exquisite beauty of its natural surroundings. These include different ecological areas, from high deserts to Andean tropical rain-forest. Following this ancient Inca Trail, we will be walking past mysterious archeological sites, half-covered by the jungle overgrowth that makes it look as if you were discovering them for the first time, to finally arrive at the lost city of the Incas: Machu Picchu. Our journey will be conducted by experienced guides that will make your trip most pleasant and safe. Our luggage will be carried by native "quechua" carriers and we will enjoy delicious meals prepared by experts in international cuisine.
Day 01: Cusco - Kmr. 88. – Qente.
Transfer from the hotel to train station, from where we will take the train to the kilometer 88. Here, we will meet our porters and equipment. We will cross the bridge at the Urubamba river and hike 30 minutes to our first camp in Qente. After lunch, we will visit Machu Qente (time 1 ½ hours) and Patallacta ruins, then we go back to Qente camp (L and D).
Day 02: Qente – Chachabamba.
After a healthy breakfast, we will begin to walk on the left margin of the Urubamba river towards Chachabamba. On the way we will see orchids and local fauna. We will have lunch after crossing the Pacaymayo River.
After a good rest, we will start the trek to Chachabamba (km. 104), where we will make our second camp. (B, L and D). (Total length of hike 7 hours).
Day 03: Chachabamba - Machu Picchu – Cusco.
Very early in the morning, we will begin hiking uphill towards Wiñaywayna ruins, the most important after Machu Picchu (2 ½ hours), to then go down from Wiñaywayna to Inti Punku (Gate of the Sun), the last pass (1 ½ hours). From this site Machu Picchu looks unreal and beautiful. We have the rest of the day to visit the citadel. The train goes back to Cusco from the Aguas Calientes station. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. (B, L).
